Chocolate Easter Nests

This is a super easy recipe for chocolate nests that children of all ages can help to make. It requires no baking but an adult needs to be on hand to melt the chocolate. To make a gluten free version use cornflakes or rice crispies instead of the shredded wheat. As well as putting eggs into the nests you can also put in the little Easter chicks that are available from all supermarkets at this time of year.

10 Shredded wheat cereal biscuits

300g/10oz chocolate bar (milk or dark chocolate depending on what you like best)

150g/5oz of mini eggs

  • Have fun crushing the shredded wheat biscuits into a bowl. Alternatively blitz them up in a food processor but take care not to overdo it. You don't want dust!
  • Break up the chocolate into a heat proof bowl. Stand the bowl over a pan of boiling water and melt the chocolate. Stir frequently. Alternatively melt the chocolate in a microwave.
  • Pour the shredded wheat into the melted chocolate and stir well to completely coat the shredded wheat with the chocolate.
  • Spoon the mixture into muffin cases and press down the middle of each one with the back of a spoon to create a nest shape.
  • Put 3 eggs into each nest.
  • Cover the nests with foil and refridgerate for an hour or more to set.
