Feeding

Having a baby means having a lot of stuff, particularly to meet the needs of their mealtimes! Whether you are breastfeeding or formula feeding, you will need bottles, teats and streilising equipment. Breastfeeding mums will also need a breast pump for those times when you need to express, and sometimes nipple shields to ease any discomfort when feeding your baby. It is recommended that babies are fed either breast milk or formula milk exclusively for the first six months. After this, your baby may start to show an interest in solid food - often when they see you eating - and this is when you can start weaning. Don't worry if your baby spits out the food as this may just mean your baby isn't quite ready and you can try again a few days or weeks later. Start weaning your baby with small portions of smooth pureed food which is of one flavour, such as banana, sweet potato or pear. You can then introduce new flavours and textures in stages as they develop. Baby food can be made at home or you can buy pouches which are labelled with age suitability - great for when you are out and about.
